04. White Shirts

Célio Braga's 'White Shirts' installation consists of seven displaced drawers and twenty eight tightly sewed white shirts. Each of the drawers contains different elements and substances: neatly folded cloth, printed proper names, mirror, pierced drawing, wax, hair and melted white soap.
Contiguous to the drawers hover the white shirts in various shapes.
All are items interwoven in our daily relations [caring, protecting, dressing...] with our body and the body of others.
Through processes such as sewing, melting, piercing and erasing, Célio Braga removes the fragile distinctions between familiar and strange, inside and outside. He intervenes organically in the architectural space through the principle of synchronicity where a simultaneous presence and interactions of diverse media and materials take place. Braga transforms it into an intimate environment where we are compelled to rethink our relations with people, objects and surroundings.
